Safety of operations in Plastic surgery
If you are thinking of having a plastic surgery procedure, it is important to know some basic points about the safety of cosmetic procedures.
Plastic surgery operations are medical procedures and must be treated like any other surgery. In this context, the patient concerned must know and understand that, like any other surgery, cosmetic procedures are treated in the most serious way, as they involve potential risks.
For this reason, the instructions and precautions imposed by the physician before the patient consents to any operation should be taken seriously.
Nevertheless, it must be emphasized that Aesthetic – Plastic surgery operations are considered the most harmless operations among all other surgical specialties . The reasons are simple, since the operations are performed on healthy “patients”, at a selected time, there is complete preparation of the patient (pre-planning, pre-operative control), they are usually related to the superficial anatomy and of course they are performed by trained Plastic surgeons.
The Plastic surgeon you choose should always prioritize. First of all, it should protect the patient’s life, dexterity and finally the good aesthetic result. In no case should these priorities be violated and a risk taken in order to achieve a better or greater result, either by one’s own decision or by the patient’s own insistence. E.g. combining more than one major surgery on the same day, or operating on a patient with serious health problems, or, operating in an inappropriate location without the necessary safety measures, could have tragic results.
In this direction, special importance must also be given to the doctor’s relationship with the patient. This relationship is unique and governed by the ethical principles of Medical science. In this way, the correct cooperation between patient and doctor is achieved and the best possible result is possible in the safest way.
Which Plastic Surgeon is Right for Me?
The “patient” should choose the doctor, who:
- Will be a member of the Hellenic Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery EEPEACH – HESPRAS (to be checked that he actually holds the title of Plastic Surgeon and has the training required by law.)
- Will have many years of experience.
- Will give honest information about all the possible complications.
- Will have the greatest credibility and confidence that he will act in the safest possible way, the agreement between them.
- Will have specialized experience in the specific type of operation.
- He will feel greater intimacy and good communication.
- He will participate at least every year in scientific conferences of his specialty (in Greece or abroad) in order to have up-to-date information.
We at our practice encourage “patients” to visit other colleagues at their initial visit, before deciding who to trust with their problem.
The time and financial burden of 2 – 3 visits is the least that should concern them, when physical integrity and the best postoperative result are at stake, which is mostly permanent and will dramatically change their lives for the better.
Plastic surgeons are doctors who are initially trained in General surgery, then in Plastic surgery, and partially in other surgical specialties , such as :
Pediatric Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Gynecology, Urology, Orthopedics, Maxillofacial Surgery, etc. In total, at least 6 surgical trainings are needed, after Medical studies and continuous examinations, to get the title of Plastic Surgery Specialty.
Regarding the doctor’s relationship with the patient, I believe that: this relationship is unique and should be governed by the ethical principles of Medical science. Only in this way will there be absolute trust, which is required from both sides, and the effort will be successful to achieve, safely, the best result that the patient and the doctor are looking for.
Do Those Who Have Some Deformity Do Plastic Surgery Procedures?
No! It has been observed that aesthetic operations are not done by those who have a problem, but by those who can make the decision to improve something about themselves and overcome it . That is, while there are people who objectively have some deformity, they are not necessarily the ones who will proceed with some operation. In contrast, there are people who, even with a minor aesthetic problem, proceed with corrective surgery!
They are the ones who ultimately benefit from Plastic surgery!
Today, with the help of Plastic surgery, you are given the opportunity to make many of your dreams come true…!
So dare to overcome and make the small external change, which will strengthen your self-confidence and bring an even more positive change to the image you have of yourself and as a consequence will have a positive effect on your everyday life and relationships with others!
So live your dream, safely, near us…
